Chinnamastra, the Severed Head Vajrayogini
Chinnamastra is a form of Great Mother Vajrayogini who has the special quality of helping us to understand the true nature of reality. This meditational practice was done by three of the four female mahasiddhas who are included within the 84 mahasiddhas of ancient India. The practice first appeared in India during the 7th century, derived from the highest yoga Chakrasamvara Tantra and is classed as a Mother Tantra, emphasising the development of clear light.
Meditating on this form of Vajrayogini helps us to cut our fundamental ignorance by developing wisdom and compassion that allow us to understand karma and dependent arising.
